Introduction The report aims to provide United Photonics to identify the issues regarding the laz-skan project as who should be the project manager of the project and the issues and solution regarding the project. The report addresses key points of skills required to take the job of the project manager and according to my thinking who should be appointed. Another main points covered in this report are the problems and issues involved which are critically analysed in the later half with the possible solutions. Question 1. Who do you think should be the manager of laz-skan development project and why? The logical implication is that a project manager is not only responsible for managing a team but also leading the team by setting up an example and motivation.(Somerville, 2010) So taking this into consideration the person accountable to deliver the project on time and safely, with the budget given in hand and having the required project manager skills. So accordingly to me I think T.S Lim the head engineer, united photonics corporation, Malaysia should be the project manager of laz- skan development project. We would also consider other factors supporting the answer why T.S Lim would be an appropriate choice. 1.Technical competency It is critical for a project manager to have a detailed knowledge of the project and the technical competence in connection with the scope of the project. T.S Lim being an engineer himself had a good understanding about the technical aspects of the project and the processes involved and could help wisely ponder ideas offered by the team and the specialists to make a balanced decision. Also the idea of the laz-skan project evolved from T.S Lim’s CSU in 2004 and was successful in installing a high-precision photonics lens into a character-recognition system for a large clearing bank so T.S Lim had a good understanding of all the areas, techniques and procedures of the project. Since the research and development project like laz-skan had a greater complexity of technical problems and the technical orientation a project manager with technical competency would be handy than one with managerial competency.
