Nowadays, managers usually stay at the office, so they pass the authority to the workers or representative. According to Management Skills Advisor (2008), empowerment is to sharing the power with the employees, and they may take autonomous decision and analysis. Besides that, empowerment will let the employees to making decision will based on their own findings and own ability. This system allows them to replace the managers to make decision, this lets the workers easily solve problem independently, and there is no need to always let managers to make decision. This helps save time and cost, this also can make the job more efficient and flexible. Although the managers have authority to make decision, he/she can empower the employees in decision making.
There are several advantages of empowering the employees in decision making. Firstly, when managers empower the workers, it represents that he/she believes worker’s ability and credibility, so he/she may allow the worker to do decision making in the job. By empowering the workers, it can actually motivate the employees, and this process leads the workers to have high satisfaction in the job. According to Kotelnikov (2011), when the workers are empowered, the workers may have knowledge to create competitive advantages in the company; besides that, the workers who are highly motivated are critical to the development and execution of the strategies. This is a proof that when the workers are empowered, they will highly feel motivated, and may feel high satisfaction which may increase their productivity in the job.
Secondly, by empowering the workers they can get them to gain new knowledge in the job. Normally, decisions are made by managers or people of high level positions, workers will not have the opportunity to make decisions. According to Gierden (2007), managers can become a coach and mentors, and they can guide the employees who are empowered to set goals and overcome the challenges. This is a proof that managers can help workers who have the ability to make decision be future, they can let the workers learn new skills and gain knowledge in the job. Besides that, workers will feel motivated because they feel supported by managers and have the capability to make decision and help the company to get competitive advantages. In addition, managers can share feedback be they is good or bad. This can let the workers to learn how to make decisions, set targets and so on.
